Hi Guys! Let’s talk about consistency and control. When it comes to healthy living, consistency is key. However, it is hard to do while doing life. Committing to daily exercise and healthy eating programs can be taxing on the mind and spirit. Do you miss junk food at your leisure? Do you crave pizza, tacos, soda, and chocolate like I do, LOL? I miss chocolate cake and my favorite cheesecake. Trust me you are not alone or crazy. Making the decision to keep our bodies healthy is not only important, but critical to our life span. We all want longevity.

Let’s be real, many of us are foodies, emotional eaters, or have some kind of unhealthy addiction. We must confront these addictions in order to live longer and enjoy this beautiful, blessed, busy life. The problem really isn't the types of food we consume. It’s control! That's the resolution! So, how do we do this? How do we live healthy and enjoy our favorite foods?

First, learning to read food labels. Shopping only for foods that agree with our digestive system. Purchase only the foods we will eat in a week's time. Food prepping is great to stay on track. Learning to control our portion sizes, calorie, fat, and sugar intakes. Drinking the recommended daily water intake. Eating the majority of fruits and veggies. Treating junk food as a snack or reward, and not as daily consumption. I recommend not consuming soda or sugary drinks at all. Definitely, avoiding foods and drinks that contain high fructose corn syrup and artificial coloring. Ask for help! Create a daily workout plan that is realistic and attainable. Believe in yourself. Be honest to yourself. Make a commitment to yourself. Find an accountability partner. Do not compare your journey with anyone else and do not give up.

I also suggest seeking a nutritionist and discussing all diet and exercise regimens with your physician beforehand. Well guys, these are just a few of my current healthy living tips. I hope you are enjoying the healthy living information this far. I believe in you!  You can do this. Happy, healthy Living!

Hi Guys! So where have I been and what have I been up to? Let’s just say 2020 caught us all off guard. Who could have ever expected a pandemic to hit the entire world. The effect Covid19 has caused is incredible. Being locked in your home is a challenge when you are active and love the outdoors. Even the simple things of enjoying a meal at your neighborhood café was taken away. The streets were empty, employment loss or remote employment, grocery stores overwhelmingly packed with people, and food dispersity. 2020 was scary! The amount of people around the world who lost their lives to Covid19 virus is still heartbreaking to think about. Although I am blessed not to have lost family or friends due to the virus, my heart still breaks for those who were affected. My prayers are still with the nation. It’s unreal how we are still dealing with this virus.

I have to admit that 2020 was not a complete loss for me. I used that time to completely reset my life. To unlearn some negative behaviors and adopt healthy behaviors. I needed the rest and I needed the world to stop so I could catch my breath, spend time with my family, refocus my life plans, focus on my health, and dive deeper into Jesus.

Well that’s exactly what I did. Still traveling my journey to Jesus and it’s been wonderful all the blessings and revelations he has given me. I will not go into full disclosure about it at this time as I’m still working on things and want to disclose once they are complete. God is amazing! He has opened many business and project doors for me in 2020 and 2021. When God says be anxious for nothing, please listen. He truly opens the door absolutely at the right time for you. Grateful!!

My journey to healthy living is still steady and ongoing. I fell off like most people in 2020. Pandemic weight gain is crazy. I had to get myself together again. I started working out and walking my treadmill. Still monitoring my A1C levels. Although I no longer follow a vegan diet, I am still eating healthy lots of fruits, veggies, and increased my water intake. I had to learn from a Nutritionist how to shop for healthy food, meal prep, and portion control. That was a shock in itself. I learned my portions were double. I was eating for two people. Of course my junk and sugar intake was insane. Proper eating, daily exercise, and my medical weight loss program is truly helping me finally live healthy. Longevity of life is my desire and goal.

A dear friend of mine started a fitness program on Instagram. She is amazing! Her fitness regiments have also helped me lose weight and I’m still losing weight. The program is challenging, but not overwhelming. She breaks down the techniques in a video, assuring you with options of each step. Every week there is a different routine for the entire week. Have about 50 more pounds to go before I meet my BMI goal. However, I know I will get there. I highly recommend you check Najah Watson’s fitness program out on Instagram or join a medical weight loss program recommended by your physician. Her page is called “Chuckythickfitness”. Let’s get healthy together. Trust me you will not be disappointed.

MY TESTIMONY

Hello, I am Marti L. Coates. My quest to living healthy was simple, to feel better.  Overeating on junk food and fast food was definitely a path to a slow death.  I gained over a hundred pounds since giving birth to my children.  Breathing heavy and not being able to walk a flight of stairs began to bother me mentally and emotionally.  Yet, I was stuck!  I did not know what to do, or how to help myself.  Therefore, I continued the negative patterns.  Working a demanding, full time job, a part time job, being a mom, all while trying to complete my master's degree was overwhelming.

This was not the time to start a new journey, at least this is the lie I fed myself.  Truth of the matter, I was lazy, and scared. It was more comfortable to ignore the problem than to confront it.  Life continued and so did the unhealthy eating, emotional, spiritual, and physical brokenness.  I hit rock bottom, as I also suffered from low self-esteem and grief.

In 2017, during an annual physical checkup, I was hit with reality.  My doctor, advised me I was a borderline diabetic, asthmatic, stressed out, and, she believed I was suffering from depression.  I immediately cried.  These results were not at all what I expected.  Sure, I gained weight, and had some issues, but she could not be delivering this to me.  She looked in my face, and asked that one tough question... Marti do you want to die and leave your children?  Crying more, I knew at that moment, this was my second chance.  I have to get this right! I responded  no, I want to live.

No physician, I had ever cared so much.  After, an hour discussion, she suggested more rest, therapy for the grief and depression.  She also, suggested, becoming a vegan/ vegetarian, cutting out excess sugar, salt, daily exercise, and yoga. She demanded by the follow up visit, for me to lose 55 pounds or placing me on a medical leave of absent from my job.  I was pumped!  That day I chose life!  Long story short, it has been a struggle but, a blessing as well.  I did get the 55 pounds off and since then more. While I am still striving to reach my BMI weight and overall health, it is nice to feel good again.

I created this page to share the tips and advice provided to me or researched in hopes of making you feel better as well.  I invite you to choose life and this journey of healthy living. Victory is our name!
